Leuven Christmas market would not be Leuven Christmas market if it did not boast a couple of novelties. And they are not minor ones this year! Moreover, due to our relocation to the town park a lot of free space for these ‘newbies’ is generated.
The biggest new thing, of course, is the relocation of the Christmas market to the town park: a one-off happening not to be missed. Stroll towards the park – cosy even without the Christmas market – sniff up the Christmas atmosphere and behold how the jigsaw puzzle pieces fall into place. Father Christmas now lives under his dream tree. Surprise your kids with a visit to Santa Claus and his fairylike dream tree and, together, enjoy the mini steam carousel and the story-telling tent. Other than that, the kiss bridge perfectly comes to the fore near the tower on the ancient town wall. Kiss your beloved one under the mistletoe, thé symbol of Christmas, love and happiness.
Other attractions you should visit or try out in the town park: Rudolf, the only real Christmas pub, cosily warm and with fine drinks; culinary delights with oysters, the best haute-burgers of Broil King, haute-dogs by Würst, the Christmas würst on occasional offer by Jeroen Meus, the newest jenevers by Filliers, the best German specialties, Christmas decoration in all possible shapes, a cup of coffee from the Java barista, … Also use the occasion to visit Abraham’s statue in the park, one of the symbols of the Union of the Years, the pride of Leuven and UNESCO World Heritage.
Do you have any difficulty in walking? The walking path in the town park is entirely paved. Also new this year is a toilet for the disabled.
Apart from the town park Ladeuzeplein as well will be newly decorated. ‘Ladeuze On Ice’ gives you the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of a Winter funfair.
