The city of Leuven and the annual Leuven Christmas Market have been a fixture of the winter season for 38 years now.

What began in December 1988 as a small-scale experiment has since grown into one of the most successful events on the calendar. The previous edition attracted a visitor count that easily surpassed the half-million mark. The lovely, mild winter weather certainly contributed to this, but the wide and interesting range of products offered by our stallholders also plays an important role every year.

This year, the Leuven Christmas Market will run for almost three full weeks, from Thursday 3 to Sunday 20 December.

Once again, this year’s event focuses on quality and variety, thanks to stalls from both home and abroad. We’ll be welcoming stallholders from Belgium, as well as from countries including the Netherlands, France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, Hungary and Luxembourg. You can visit over 120 stalls to find that special gift or that unique little something that will eventually find its place under the Christmas tree. Of course, we’ve also thought of your inner self, and you can sample all sorts of delicious and comforting snacks and drinks.

Make a note of the opening hours, which you can find by taking a look at the menu/open 2026 (top left of this page). We open an hour earlier on Fridays so that visitors to the weekly Friday market can also pop in to see us.
